South Korean steelmaker POSCO said last Fridav it has restarted its third blast furnace amid the global recession soarked by the covID-19 pandemic.The move came 20 months after repair and maintenance work worth abaut 400 billion won (USS332.6 million) at the third blast furnace in Gwangyang, about 420 kilometers southwest of Seoul.The repair work raised the annual production of crude steel at the third blast furnace by 25 percent to 4 6 million tons. accordina to the companvThe resumption, which had been pushed back twice. in Mav and June, came as demand from automakers. construction comnanies and shipbuilders declined due to the covlD-19 pandemic.POSCO has five blast furnaces in Gwangvang and four blast furnaces in Pohang.about 375 kilometers southeast of Seoul.
