Mexico's Steel Consumption To Decrease By 13.4% YOY In 2020

Mexico's steel consumption will be 21.3 million tons this year, down 13.4% from the previous year, the Mexican lron and Steel Association (Canacero) said on Monday.Jose Roman Vergara, head of Commerce and Statistics at the Canacero, said steel consumption in Mexico should increase by 7.3% in 2021.Vergara urged investment in the country's steel industry. inc luding infrastructure, to boost domestic stee demand. "We expect the recovery to have a longer way than previously expected." he said. There may not be a recovery like in previous years. The recovery is expected to be moderate and gradual."The Mexican government's infrastructure proiects will brina 1.5 million tons of steel demand for its steell producers. Vergara said.
