Brazilian Steel Consumption Up By 4.4% YOY In July

Brazilian apparent steel consumption increased by 4.4% YOY in July 2020, with the long steel sector continuing to outperform flat steel, national steelmakers' association Instituto Aco Brasil said on Auaust 14.Consumption totaled 1.84 million tons in July, up from 1.76 million tons a year ago and the highest monthly figure since October 2019. The resilience of the country's construction sector during the Covid-19 pandemic was leading the recovery through its higher demand for long steel.Long steel consumption totaled 840.000 tons in July, up by 13.4% from 740.000 tons in the corresponding month last year, while flat steel consumption was 999.000 tons. down by 2.1% from 1.02 million tons in the same period last year.
