Surface treatment of spiral steel tube


The surface treatment of spiral steel tube is one of the key factors to determine the service life of pipeline anticorrosion.It has been verified by research institutions that the service life of the anticorrosive coating depends on factors such as coating type, coating quality and construction environment, and the influence of surface treatment of steel tube on the service life of the anticorrosive coating accounts for about 50%.


1, cleanSolvent, emulsion cleaning steel surface, in order to achieve the removal of oil, grease, dust, lubricants and similar organic matter, but it can not remove the steel surface rust, scale, flux, etc., so only as an auxiliary means in the anti-corrosion production.


2. Rust removal of toolsMainly USES the steel wire brush and other tools to polish the steel surface, can remove loose or warped oxide, rust, welding slag and so on.Manual tool derusting can reach Sa2 level, power tool derusting can reach Sa3 level, if the steel surface adheres to a strong scale, tool derusting effect is not ideal, not up to the anti-corrosion construction requirements of anchor depth


3, picklingGenerally, chemical and electrolytic methods are used for pickling treatment. Only chemical pickling is used for pipeline anticorrosion, which can remove scale, rust and old coating. Sometimes, it can be used as the retreatment after sand blasting and rust removal.Although chemical cleaning can make the surface to a certain degree of cleanliness and roughness, but its anchorage shallow, and easy to cause pollution to the environment.


After spraying (throwing), the physical adsorption on the surface of the pipe can be expanded, and the mechanical adhesion between the anti-corrosion layer and the surface of the pipe can be enhanced.Therefore, spraying (throwing) jet derusting is the ideal derusting method of pipeline anticorrosion.Generally speaking, shot blasting (sand) derusting is mainly used for pipe internal surface treatment, shot blasting (sand) derusting is mainly used for pipe external surface treatment.Several problems should be paid attention to when using spraying (throwing) jet derusting.



4.1 derusting gradeFor the construction process of epoxy, ethylene, phenolic and other anticorrosive coatings commonly used in steel pipe, the surface of steel pipe is generally required to reach nearly white level (Sa2.5).It has been proved that almost all scale, rust and other dirt can be removed with this kind of derusting grade. The anchorage depth is up to 40~100 m, which fully meets the adhesion requirements of the anticorrosive coating and steel pipe, and the spraying (throwing) jet derusting process can meet the technical conditions of nearly white class (Sa2.5) with low operation cost and stable and reliable quality.



4.2 jet abrasiveIn order to achieve the ideal derusting effect, the abrasive should be selected according to the hardness of the surface of the spiral steel tube, the degree of original corrosion, the required surface roughness, coating type, etc. For the single-layer epoxy, two or three layers of polyethylene coating, the mixed abrasive of steel sand and steel shot is easier to achieve the ideal derusting effect.The steel shot has the function of strengthening the steel surface, while the steel sand has the function of etching the steel surface.Steel sand and steel shot mixed abrasive (usually steel shot hardness of 40 ~ 50 HRC, steel sand hardness of 50 ~ 60 HRC can be used for a variety of steel surface, even in class C and D rusted steel surface, rust removal effect is very good.

1. BK (+C) 

No heat treatment after last cold forming process.

2. BKW (+LC)

After last heat treatment there is a light finishing pass (cold drawing)

3. BKS (+SR)

After the final cold forming process the tubes are stress relieve annealed.

4. GBK (+A)

After the final cold forming process the tubes are annealed in a controlled atmosphere.

5. NBK (+N)

After the final cold forming process the tubes are annealed above the upper transformation 

point in a controlled atmosphere.
