The reason of the welding seam of aluminum alloy hollow profile


Hollow profile is a common decorative materials and industrial aluminum shaped, and aluminum processing plant production varieties, often because of the different extrusion machine capability, may be on different machines in the production of various hollow profiles, for example, in 5 mn on the production of 25 mm x 38 mm flat tube, 8 mn on production of 100 mm x 25 mm pipe and in 18 mn or larger on the production of curtain wall profiles, textile material or other industrial profiles, etc.But the problem that often encounters in production process is: because weld seam is serious, the black belt that profile appears after surface treatment or chromatic aberration are serious and make the product discard as useless, cause irreparable loss.This article has carried on the analysis and the induction regarding the related factor, provides the colleague reference.


  1. The mechanism of weld formation is that the metal is reassembled in the welding chamber after being separated into several strands through the splitter hole. Due to the existence of the splitter bridge, the rigid zone of metal flow is inevitably formed at the bottom of the bridge, so that the diffusion and bonding speed of metal atoms at this place is slow, and the density of metal structure is reduced.Therefore, it is inevitable that there will be welding seams in the extruded profiles with split composite die.However, a good weld can avoid the appearance of black belt after surface treatment.To ensure the quality of the welding seam, it is necessary to make the metal in the welding seam of the welding chamber be able to fully diffuse and combine, otherwise, it will form loose, coarse particles and other parts of the organization is not uniform, therefore, the degree of deformation should be larger, especially the metal deformation of the welding chamber should be large, in order to form a greater hydrostatic pressure.

2.The reason for the serious feng-seam 


2.1If the extrusion pressure is too low, the welding strength is low.The factors causing low extrusion pressure are comprehensive, including the factors on the mold and the process.Have the following kinds of circumstance: one, extrude relatively low.To improve welding together can adopt the following methods: 


1 / the thickening of upper die 


2 / tap hole reduced


 3 / extrusion temperature decrease, normal hollow profile extrusion temperature is 460-500 ℃, can drop to 420-440 ℃.This method is very practical in the field.


4/ select the larger extrusion barrel, i.e. arrange the profile to be extruded on the larger model.


5/ the welding chamber should be deeper (by "sinking" the splitter bridge).However, it should be noted that the submerged bridge will also reduce the extrusion pressure, so the use of this method should be based on the specific situation.It is effective to adopt the shunt mode of "+ yu" bridge structure.In fact, in the production process, with the wear of the mold, the wall thickness of the profile also increases, and the extrusion ratio also decreases, to a certain extent, the serious weld will affect the surface quality of the profile.If the shunt hole design is too large (especially for profiles with low extrusion ratio), the extrusion pressure will be reduced and the welding strength will be reduced.It is recommended that the edge of the manifold be at least 6-10mm away from the extruded cylinder wall.Of course, it is better to combine the selection of the diverging port with the structure of the diverging bridge.


2.2.The welding chamber is too shallow or too small to form enough hydrostatic pressure.It is reasonable to increase the volume of the welding chamber on the premise of ensuring the rigidity and strength of the die core.It can increase the fracture area of the welding chamber or increase the height of the welding chamber.


2.3 unreasonable distribution of diversion holes, unreasonable design and processing of diversion Bridges.Try to make the welding seam close to the corner or non-decorative surface, and use drip diversion bridge and reasonable welding Angle to make the welding spot fall on the plane of welding chamber (i.e.If the structure of "+ yu" bridge is adopted to arrange the diverging holes, in a similar situation, the middle bridge can be narrower and sink the bridge (to deepen the depth of partial welding chamber) 5-8mm.

It is suggested that the total amount of Mg and Si should be 0.7% to 0.Within a 9% range, the Fe content is below 0.Good weld quality can be obtained by 15%.


2/ extrusion temperature and extrusion speed the high temperature of the aluminum bar is conducive to the diffusion of metal bonding, but it will lead to the intensification of metal bonding die phenomenon, at the same time, the high temperature, and lead to the rapid growth of metal structure grain growth rate, so it will make the weld structure thick.If the extrusion speed is too high, the metal deformation work will increase and the metal temperature will increase greatly.In addition, if the extrusion temperature is too high, the extrusion pressure will decrease, thus reducing the welding strength.Therefore, in the production site, it is more practical to lower the temperature of the aluminum bar, and then carry out mold and other analysis or maintenance.


3 / extrusion temperature have unreasonable choice may also affect the quality of the weld, Suggestions for thick wall profile extrusion cylinder temperature 440-460 ℃, for the thin wall profiles and diversion hole is too large, suggest use 400-420 ℃, on the other hand, the container is not clean, more product scale, or container has deformation, such as drum and extrusion cylinder and the pressure pad clearance is too large, these all affect the quality of weld.


4/ uneven cooling will also affect the quality of the weld.In fact, when graphite products are used as the discharge material, the side in contact with graphite is also prone to the phenomenon of black belt after oxidation, especially in the hot summer.This is because the characteristic of graphite makes the local temperature of the profile rise, thus accelerating the growth of grain at the welding seam of the surface.However, if the cooling capacity of the equipment is sufficient, this phenomenon can be avoided.


5/ in order to reduce the impact of welding seams on surface quality, alkali etching time in the oxidation process can also be relatively reduced.



3.To solve the problem of welding quality of hollow profiles, first "diagnose" the mold, and then choose and ensure the reasonable process or adjust the extrusion process according to the situation of the mold.Bad welding or serious weld is the result of the profile after the surface treatment, such as black belt, color difference and so on.
